On June 2, 2010, Facebook announced a new position, called the Chief Technology Officer, or CTO position. The position will be held by Bret Taylor, who will report directly to Mark Zuckerberg. Who is Mr. Taylor? He helped run FriendFeed, which later was acquired by Facebook. He brings to the table a wealth of knowledge and skill, especially in the area of development and engineering.
Interesting to note, in the letter sent by Zuckerberg to the Facebook staff to announce the position of Taylor, Zuckerberg notes that, “News Feed is the home page for more than 250 million people every day.” This interesting fact demonstrates that one of two things has occurred. It means that Facebook has overcome its 50 percent daily engagement rate that it has widely promoted or it has surpassed the 500 million user mark. In either case, the new position and announcement show that growth is on the mind of Facebook.
